ADVANCES IN UROGYNAECOLOGY 2019

New Horizons, Old Myths!

15 – 17  November 2019, KIMS Hyderabad

AIUG 2019

Dear colleagues, Here we are again, exploring new horizons and breaking old myths with world-renowned experts in the field of Urogynaecology. Our last conference in 2017 was well appreciated and the interest shown by the delegates, was very rewarding. The latest storm over mesh has brought us closer to native tissue repair in SUI and prolapse. The live telecast will include these procedures in addition to many other interesting surgeries. In our didactic sessions, we endeavor to cover the spectrum of Urogynaecology including controversies in Cosmetic Gynecological surgeries and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS). We have meticulously designed realistic simulators for preconference hands-on workshops, wherein you get to interact with the faculty one-on-one. We are pleased to present this unique opportunity to hear and learn from ‘The Best’. So, let us meet, interact and share knowledge. This inspirational and energizing meeting will undoubtedly leave you recharged for better patient care – our ultimate motive!

Workshops

Course Director                                                                                                               Co-Directors Catherine Matthews                                                                                          Dr. Anuradha Koduri Dr. Lalitha Prasad   The American college of Ob/Gyn is now training all gynecologists to do TOTs and TVTs because they believe that the burden of Incontinence in women will be so high that it would not be possible for one specialty to handle it alone. Also, we are very familiar with the vulvo-vaginal anatomy and the female perineum and so it makes more sense for us to learn it. The procedure is very simple and gives you 94% success. What to Expect from the Workshop? The aim of this workshop is to provide both theoretical and practical knowledge regarding TVTs and TOTs, and to help the delegates become more proficient.
  1. To familiarize the delegates with the anatomy of the Obturator Foramen as well as the perineum.
  2. Understanding the instrumentation.
  3. Receive step-by-step coaching by world-class faculty, and practice on silicone pelvic simulators mimicking real-life scenarios.
  4. Guidelines will be provided.
After taking part in this workshop, participants will be able to know the indications, understand the prerequisites, select the procedure, learn the procedures and how to manage the complications post operatively. The workshop will be divided into 5 parts:
  1. A didactic session about SUI and the various slings that are available, and their pros and cons.
  2. Video presentation.
  3. A display of the various slings that are available in India and how they work.
  4. Using the model that we have created, you will receive step-wise guidance from experts in doing TOT/TVT, understand the obturator fossa anatomy and use the sling instruments and practice placing the slings. You are going to spend the maximum time here trying to perfect your technique.
  5. A Q/A session to clear any doubts.
At the end of the workshop you will receive a participation certificate. We hope that you will learn, enjoy and benefit from this workshop. We recommend that for the first 5 cases you should call somebody experienced to stand by and document it. In the current medico-legal climate it will be useful. You will also get a step-by-step manual to take home with you. If all else fails, we are just a phone call away. Good luck!
  1. Course Directors: Dr Kimberley Kenton, Dr Lakshmi Rathna Sacrocolpopexy is one of the effective surgeries in the treatment of apical prolapse. Laparoscopic approach offers the patient the advantages of an abdominal technique without the morbidity of having an incision. It, however, maybe challenging due to the need for laparoscopic surgical skills and advanced suturing skills. Here we propose to train you on a realistic model so that at the end of this workshop you will be able to attempt a LSC. Goals:
    1. Familiarize you with the laparoscopic pelvic anatomy, especially the ureter.
    2. The selection of the patients.
    3. How to avoid the technical difficulties during the procedure.
    4. Orient you with the instruments and intracorporeal suturing.
    5. Understand the complications and management.
    6. Pre and post operative care.
    What to Expect:
    1. We will have adequate work stations, equipped with lap trainers, instruments, Y-shaped mesh, and sutures. We expect 2 delegates for each station.
    2. Inside the lap trainers, we have constructed a realistic vault prolapse scenario which you will be repairing during the workshop.
    3. In order to have a realistic experience, we have substituted animal intestine in place of a plastic vagina.
    4. Didactic sessions and videos on the procedure as well as the models that you can work on.
    5. You will be taught and supervised by world-class faculty with a free exchange of ideas and enough time to suture the mesh in place.
    6. The course will last for 8 hours leaving you ample time to interact with the faculty as well as practice on the models.
Please make the best of it by reading the material ahead of time and having your doubts and questions written so that the faculty can answer you on a one to one basis.
Director: Dr Giulio Santoro, Italy Co-directors: Dr Aparna Hegde, Dr Ashok Khurana Pelvic floor considerations run the full spectrum of obstetric and gynaecological care. Deciphering the Pelvic floor is mandatory for every doctor who practices Obstetrics, Gynecology, Urology and Colorectal surgery. Ultrasound assessment of pelvic floor allows a clear understanding of the underlying anatomical details which   is crucial, whether you are doing a  vaginal delivery or pelvic/ vaginal surgery, or repairing a 3degree, 4thdegree  perineal tear. Understanding the dynamics of the pelvic floor is of utmost importance in the evaluation of Incontinence ,prolapse and Pelvic reconstructive surgery and some nonsurgical interventions The high rate of surgical failure and the need for repeat surgery are mostly because of the lack of comprehensive knowledge about the pathophysiology of such diseases. The turning point in the management was clearer comprehension of the anatomy by MRI and endoanal-endorectal ultrasound. The latter although is an affordable and reliable diagnostic instrument, there is a lack of formal training in most countries in all the relevant specialities. Anorectal disorders, although underreported in most parts of the world are quite common (close to 3-7%) and significantly affect patients’ quality of life. With the increasing awareness, patients are more willing to seek medical help for their embarrassing problems. So, here’s a unique opportunity in a developing country to learn from the BEST the right ways to manage your patients with fecal incontinence, anorectal fistulae, obstruction defecation syndrome etc. In addition this will help you in the appropriate case selection for different types of slings’ placement, diagnosis of any pathology in the periurethral region and complications in previous mesh surgeries and plan the corrective surgery accordingly. Goals of the Workshop
  1. Both theoretical and practical knowledge about Anatomy of the perineum, pelvic floor and anal sphincter.
  2. Understanding the physiology, dynamics and pathology on ultrasound appearance.
  3. Interpretation of the 3D images.
  4. Hands-on experience on transperineal ultrasound on volunteers.
This will be a full day course and the delegates can discuss their doubts and difficulties with the faculty one-on-one. I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. ~Confucius The Course Director Dr. Giulio A. Santoro was educated at the University of Naples and at the University of Siena (PhD), Italy. Date – 14 th November 2019, 9 AM TO 5 PM Venue- KIMS Auditorium, 15th floor, secunderabad   “The   glory  of  medicine  is   that   it   is  constantly moving  forward, that  there  is  always  more  to  learn”   William  J  Mayo We welcome you to this full day workshop on Urodynamics which had been approved by International Continence Society. We hope that by the end of the workshop participants will have a sound practical knowledge on the principles and clinical applications of Urodynamics. Urodynamics is an important armamentarium in the evaluation of women with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS). The validity of the test lies in setting up the equipment, calibration and interpretation and hence proper training and the need for practical workshops. This workshop intends to provide a practical course with an interactive environment for the practitioners to improve their basic and advanced clinical skills in urodynamic study. There will be didactic lectures from world renowned faculty of ICS followed by practical demonstration of setting up the equipment, calibration, performing the test on a live patient and discussion of urodynamic tracings and their clinical implications. After the course the participant will be able to know the setting up of the equipment, trace artefacts, conduct the study as per Good Clinical Practice guidelines, trouble shooting, interpretation of traces. We request all practitioners dealing with female LUTS to make use of this unique opportunity and get a thorough working knowledge on Urodynamics and in turn better patient care. So do register, attend, interact, learn and Master the study of Urodynamics. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. Henry Ford
